Renowned as Australia’s mecca for cruising, the colours and scenery are world class, as is the most spectacular beach arguably in Australia (Whitehaven), which is comprised of virtually pure white silicon. There is opportunity to eat ashore at a variety of restaurants- certainly Hamilton Island is worth the visit as well as the bustling streets of Airlie Beach.

The Cruising Waters/ Conditions
One thing often confused in the Whitsundays is the fact that they are not part of the Great Barrier Reef- which is approx. 30 miles to Seaward and best accessed by fast ferry or float plane. Having said this, the Coral and snorkelling in areas such as Blue Pearl and Butterfly Bay, is as good as any of the reef.

Many vessels have different restrictions but a bareboat cannot sail to the Great Barrier Reef. The widest survey limit is from Bowen to Mackay however there are often restrictions on this.

Getting There
Direct flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to Hamilton Island which your yacht can be delivered to or you can catch the ferry to Airlie Beach. Alternatively flights via Brisbane to Proserpine with a 45 minute transfer to Airlie Beach.

Local Cuisine
Australia is a melting pot of cultures and cuisine, offering a wide selection of the world’s best fare. The seafood is superb (throw another shrimp on the barbie) or for the more adventurous a kangaroo or Emu steak. Either way, your Whitsundays bareboat charter will be a sailing holiday to remember.
